About the Frostburg City Police Department
The Frostburg City Police Department serves the people of Frostburg 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. The City of Frostburg has a permanent population of about 9,000 people along with many people who come to the City for work, school, tourism, or other business. The City is home to Frostburg State University, which lies entirely within the corporate boundaries of the City of Frostburg. FSU brings approximately 5,000 to 6,000 students to the City each year, along with many faculty members and staff.
The Frostburg City Police Department has seventeen (17) police officers and four (4) police communications officers, who also perform administrative assistant duties. The police station is open 24/7 and there are always police officers on-duty patrolling the City. The department has one (1) full-time School Resource Officer, who provides SRO services to the three public schools in Frostburg. The department also assigns one (1) criminal investigation detective to the Combined County Criminal Investigation Unit (C3I Unit).
The department provides a full range of policing services, such as uniformed patrols, criminal investigations and arrests, traffic enforcement, parking enforcement, well-being checks, traffic control duties, community service activities, and other common police duties. The department also regularly provides speakers for community groups, classrooms, and other entities who desire to hear about policing in the City generally or about a specific topic.
The Frostburg City Police Department places a primary emphasis on community-oriented policing and problem solving and works closely with government, law enforcement, and community partners to prevent, reduce, and effectively address community issues. The department is under the leadership of the elected Commissioner of Public Safety, Commissioner Kevin G. Grove, and the Chief of Police, Chief Nicholas J. Costello.
