Please Remove Snow From Sidewalks & Fire Hydrants
We're in a winter wonderland! Help keep the City safe and accessible this season. Snow and ice should be cleared from sidewalks and fire hydrants after a winter storm.
Please keep in mind that students must walk to school, and many residents, including those who are elderly, vision-impaired, or mobility-impaired, use the sidewalks on a daily basis.
Fire trucks carry a limited amount of water, so one of the first tasks upon arriving at the scene of a fire is to locate a water supply from the nearest hydrant. Hydrants covered in snow can be difficult to locate, and uncovering them can waste valuable time. Please do your part to keep Frostburg safe in inclement weather by digging out a three-foot radius around fire hydrants near your property.
**City Code, Article 4, Section 4-2 requires that property owners clear snow and ice accumulations greater than 6" from public sidewalks located on their property frontage within 24 hours of snowfall. The path must be a minimum of two (2) feet in width and allow for unobstructed passage. This section of City Code also requires that property owners treat sidewalks for ice or freezing rain within 24 hours of a winter weather event by treating the sidewalk(s) on their property frontage with salt, sand, or a similar abrasive.**
Code enforcement will issue warnings and citations as necessary, but the goal is to have a clear path for residents to navigate. Thanks for doing your part!
